Reflections... and time travel?

A day after a tragedy is always a moment to reflect. My thoughts are centered around the appearance of humans having a tremendous number of flaws. We are all a little different or a lot different the difference is in the comparison. If you compare me to Jack the Ripper I'm not so bad. If you compare me to Mother Teresa then I'm an ogre. As controversial as tragedies can be, we all agree there is no sense in the taking of a human life. We often get caught in the moment and think we could prevent the event but it really is deeper than the moment. I believe there are always signs that point to problems. Sometimes we overlook the signs or don't recognize them. We all know the tragedy from yesterday, it was terrible. Did you also know an adult in China went in a classroom and slashed 22 children and one adult with a knife? Did you also know in New York City the number one murder weapon was a baseball bat? This isn't a story about weapons and tragedies. It's a post about the flaws of humanity. Once we recognize the flaws is there a way to correct them? I'm not sure. There will always be those that question why God would allow such a thing to happen. You really have to know his character to understand his sovereignty. I have yet to find anywhere in the bible that promises me an easy and safe existence on this earth for all of my days. What I do find is the promise of a better eternity. I find his love and his grace. I find that he promises never to allow more to happen to me than I can handle. I also find a great number of conditions he demands adherence to before entering a relationship with him. There are a majority of humans that deny His existence because they have no desire to meet His conditions. The humans that choose not to know Him will always blame Him instead of seeking comfort from His promises. A great debate seems span the ages regarding the intentions of man living harmoniously with all other men. I'm sorry to say it's just not going to happen. For all things to be harmonious we all have to believe the same thing. Some may say that's not true but some may also ignore the fact there are things other humans do that you or I find inexcusable. How do I live harmoniously with someone that has no value for human life? You see it everyday. Abusers, people who take their frustrations out on other human beings. Is it acceptable in an effort to live harmoniously? Absolutely not. Can we prevent all instances of abuse and aggression? Impossible. So what hope is there? It's in the knowledge of knowing there are more good people than bad. It's in the knowledge of knowing there are more people who believe in the Almighty than the number of people who don't. We live in a day driven by the misconception that we can govern ourselves in fairness and resolve all our differences with the guidance or intervention of a set of guidelines implanted in humanity by Yahweh. Throughout the ages man has tried to accomplish perfection and harmony on his own. Throughout the ages man has failed terribly. I suggest you do some research on the dispensations of human existence defined by the history written in the word. I think the reality we refuse to admit is we are really lost in the confusion. We don't know where to turn or what to do next. We seem to be extremely vulnerable to the passions of a few who speak louder than the majority. The loud speaking minority is really promoting confusion among the masses and using the confusion to promote a feeling of abandonment and a loss of direction. It's the same over all the ages. It's the bait and hook message of follow me I know the way. Enough is enough. It is all coming to an end but it's an end none of can know or predict. To the Mayans I apologize for the misconception humanity has chosen by picking a part of your culture and imposing it on the whole of humanity. It's simply a changing of the ages. It's like spring, summer, fall, and winter on a much bigger scale. This I can assure you, things in your immediate realm of existence will calm down but like the tide, it's a roller coaster and is always changing. Accustom yourself to the things that make the ride a little smoother. Measure your purpose. Control your realm in a way that's right. Don't lose sight of the fact that bad things happen to good people everyday. When the bad times come remember Yahweh won't put you in anything you can't handle. This I know, the end is coming but it cannot be predicted to a day or a minute or a manner. Live each day to it's fullest with care and love for all of humanity. With that said...
I was involved in a discussion with a number of friends the other evening. The topic shifted to the ability to time travel. We started dreaming of all the things from the past we'd like to witness. Washington crossing the Potomac, Thomas Jefferson putting pen to paper in an effort to free a people and set an idea in place to keep those people from future imposed tyranny. Benjamin Franklin discovering electricity. Watching Abraham Lincoln as he struggled to bring a nation back from the splitting asunder of a civil war. Use your imagination. But it occurs to me if I had one opportunity to take a trip back through the ages there is one event I would elevate above all other events. I would like to be standing in the shadows just outside a stable in the little town of Bethlehem on a very special night. I would like to know what I know now and witness the one event that began the only manner of reconciliation to the Creator available. The only sacrifice that would ever succeed began in a manger. I would like to hear the angels singing of the event. I can only imagine the electricity in the air. It is the one event I would cherish above all the others. To witness the birth of my hope and assurance of a better eternity. Life is still good and the pain we experience will pass, we are not meant to forget but we are destined to heal. We are destined to try our best to make a difference but we must adhere to the guidelines set before us. Not the guidelines of a minority but the guidelines of the One who set every star in place, the One that established time as a measure for man, the One that truly loves His creation even though the creation is engaged in self reliance. His sovereignty is perfect. A day of reconciliation is coming and in that hope we can rest.

Merry CHRISTMAS!
